Why was my student nominated for the MentorSuccess© program?2023-08-29T14:39:53+00:00

Students are recommended for the MentorSuccess© program by teachers and school staff for a variety of reasons. Often, students are nominated because they are facing an educational, social, or emotional challenge at school and would benefit from the weekly 1:1 time with a caring mentor. The goal of MentorSuccess© is to create a caring connection to equip students with skills that will not only inspire short-term success as young leaders, but also build fundamental skills they will use for the rest of their lives!

How long are mentoring sessions? How many times a week?2021-03-30T19:30:06+00:00

Mentoring sessions are typically once a week for 45 – 55 minutes.

When are mentoring sessions held? Will my student have to miss class time or recess?2023-08-29T14:43:45+00:00

That is a great question! Mentoring sessions differ by school and are typically scheduled through the collaboration of the MentorSuccess© Program Administrator and parents/guardians. While lunch, recess, and after school sessions are popular, we will work with you to find a time that is most beneficial to your student.

What does a mentoring session look like?2021-03-30T19:31:39+00:00

Mentors are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes early, if possible, to sign-in at the school office and review their Mentor Toolkit. Once the student arrives, mentors and students will often spend time in conversation, read & discuss a book together, and then engage in a skill-building game or activity. *Mentors are encouraged to sit-in on a mentoring session before they begin mentoring.*

Do mentors have to pass a background check?2021-03-30T19:32:50+00:00

Yes. All mentors go through a thorough vetting process and are required to pass a background check and receive training before they begin mentoring. As volunteers, mentors are subject to all volunteer requirements for the school or site at which they mentor. Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students and mentors. All mentoring is held in a designated open and supervised space. For further information on mentoring guidelines and policies, please contact info@mentorsuccesskids.com.
